Aiming for Tour de Corse WRC2 victory

Aiming for Tour de Corse WRC2 victory

Earlier this year Andreas Mikkelsen made a guest-appearance at Skoda Motorsport, and won the Rallye Monte-Carlo WRC2. He is now back behind the wheels of a Skoda Fabia R5 for Rallye de France – Tour de Corse, aiming for another victory for the Czech team.

The 27-year-old Norwegian, who lost his manufacturer seat at the end of last season when Volkswagen Motorsport stepped down from the WRC, is now ready for his second outing in the Fabia R5, together with codriver Anders Jaeger. The duo secured their first victory with the car by winning the WRC2 at Rallye Monte-Carlo, finishing the rally more than 3 minutes ahead of the nearest competitor.
- I know the rally and the stages pretty good, but I do not have that much experience with the car. It was a bit of asphalt for Monte-rally, but this is something completely different. I’m very happy we managed to get two full test-days ahead of the rally.
- I know the rally from both the IRC and WRC and it is a rally I usually enjoy a lot. Stages this year are almost identical compared to last year, so I do know them all. We will use last year’s pace notes as a base for this year, and make them even better this year. There was a couple of places last year which were not perfect, we now have the chance to make them perfect! Tour de Corse is a very special rally, with long stages and corner – after corner – after corner. It’s a lot of information that need to go in the pace notes.
After being 3rd in the championship for the last three years, there is no doubt that Andreas are aiming for a win on the Mediterranean Island. – We hope to secure another win for Skoda Motorsport, and that is also our main target! We need to find a good pace and be on it from the very first corner to succeed!
