Aiming for another WRC2 victory at Rally Portugal

Aiming for another WRC2 victory at Rally Portugal

For the third time this season, Skoda Motorsport have hired Andreas Mikkelsen and Anders Jaeger to drive a Skoda Fabia R5 in the WRC2. The Norwegians travels to Rally Portugal for another victory.

Rally Portugal is a familiar rally to the 27-year-old, this will be his 6th time there and there is no doubt he is aiming for victory together with co-driver Anders Jaeger.

- I’m aiming for victory, of course! I’m very grateful that Skoda Motorsport have hired us again, they are a very professional team and it’s exciting to work with them, Andreas says. I’ve always enjoyed Rally Portugal, the atmosphere and the fantastic rally-fans is unbelievable. To compete on the Fafe-stage is something very unique, even inside the rally-car you can hear the fans when you fly over the jump! I know I can be very fast in Portugal, and I think my second there from last year and third in 2015 proves that.

Rally Portugal is a rough rally for car, driver and co-driver, and also for the tyres. You need to make clever choices and strategic planning are needed in the tyre plan. You cannot go flat all the time, but at the same time you have to be fast from the first stage if you want to win. If it rains, it rains a lot – and the soft-sanded layered stages turns in to mud.

With more than 30 entries in the WRC2 category, the competition are on for Rally Portugal. Also driving a Skoda Fabia R5 for Skoda Motorsport will be Even Management colleagues Pontus Tidemand and Jonas Andersson. Both have dominated the WRC2 this year, with Pontus winning 3 of 5 events and Andreas winning the remaining 2.

Rally Portugal kicks off with a super special at the Lousada rally-cross track on Thursday evening from 19:00.
