An alternator-problem forced Andreas Mikkelsen to retire from Rallye Monte-Carlo on the Friday, but the Norwegian fought his way back and finished 3rd on the Power Stage and grabbed three important championship-points.

Going in to the season’s first event, the Hyundai Motorsport driver said he was aiming for the 2018 championship title. The disappointment was big when he was forced to retire already on Friday with an alternator-issue. Together with co-driver Anders Jæger, he was fighting in the lead for the first three stages, when the day sadly came to an end before SS4.

Back under Rally2 regulations on Saturday, the only target was to make it through the rest of the event, in order to secure some points on Sunday’s power stage.

- We had only the power stage in mind this morning when we made our tyre-choice, and I believe it worked well for that. The conditions were drying up, so the stage got faster and faster, it wasn’t perfect for us. But I’m very pleased with our performance and it got us 3 points – which is better than nothing! All eyes on Rally Sweden now, we will be back stronger.

Next up in the WRC is Rally Sweden in the middle of February, but already this week he will be testing the car on snow for the first time, something Andreas looks forward to.
