Andreas Mikkelsen determined to fight back at Rally Sweden

Andreas did not get the season opener at Rallye Monte-Carlo he planned for, but are looking forward to a fight-back at the upcoming Rally Sweden. As a Norwegian he is especially looking forward to the stages in Norway on Friday.

The 29-year-old admits that Rallye Monte-Carlo was a big disappointment. Even though he had a very good start, he had to retire with an alternator problem on the Friday. After that it was all about getting some power-stage points, and with the third fastest time he secured 3 points.

- We didn’t manage to start the season as we wanted, but now we are ready for another fight at Rally Sweden, probably my favorite rally on the calendar.
Especially Friday will be an exciting day, with 4 of the stages taking place across the border in Norway.

- With stages in Norway we are definitely on home soil, and Norwegian rally-fans are amazing when it comes to creating a good atmosphere out on the stages. It looks incredible with all the flags, the fires and the many fans. We are focused on our driving, but it is impossible not to take in the atmosphere. Sometimes the smoke from the fires are completely covering the forest.

This year the conditions also looks to be perfect for proper winter rally.

- This year there is a lot of snow, and I can’t wait to tackle a proper winter rally again. Snow-covered stages lined with high snow-banks, that’s something special. The stages in Sweden are fast and with the conditions we have now, it will probably be even faster. All though we have to be careful with snow-banks; they can be used as safety, but you can also get properly stuck in them.
Rally Sweden will be the fifth rally with Hyundai Motorsport and the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC, and Andreas have won stages on all of them, something he wants to continue doing.

- I do enjoy driving on snow, and I know from Rally Sweden last year that the car is fast enough to win. We want a podium here, and it’s important that we get that to get points in the championship. I came second here in 2014, so we know we can do it!

All the best,

Andreas
