6th for Andreas at Wales Rally GB

6th for Andreas at Wales Rally GB

After being the fastest car on Saturday, it was a challenge for Andreas Mikkelsen to finish the rally on Sunday and to keep the position. – I was not feeling well at all on Sunday, he says.

Wales Rally GB turned out to be a mix of everything for Andreas Mikkelsen. He struggled with set up on Friday and lost a lot of time. Saturday was an impressive day, he was the fastest driver and also won 3 stages. Sunday, he had to put all his strength in to finish.

- We just have to be pleased about our performance on Saturday and that we actually managed to finish today. I have not been well at all today, and I really wanted to just stay in bed. I felt something was brewing yesterday, had no sleep at all and I’m not feeling well. I couldn’t even manage to watch any on-board footage last night.

Together with co-driver Anders Jaeger, Andreas aimed for a podium position in Wales. To finish P6 was not the plan, mostly due to set up challenges for Friday.

- Looking at what we managed to do on the Saturday, I’m still happy with our performance. Friday never turned out as we planned. We used a center differential that were not optimal, and it’s difficult to push when you don’t know exactly how the car will behave. We changed it for Friday afternoon, and it started to get better. Saturday was perfect. It’s a really good felling to be there fighting with the fastest cars, and 3 stage wins is great. Our car did exactly what I wanted, and then it is just easy to go fast. Sunday was an incredible though day, and I’m just happy we managed to complete. It’s looking promising for Spain now!

Sebastien Ogier took the victory at the final stage, just ahead of Jari-Matti Latvala. Esapekka Lappi ended third. Team-mate Thierry Neuville got ahead of Andreas on the final day and ended 5th. Sunday morning started with an exciting battle for 5th between the two Norwegians Andreas and Mads Østberg. Andreas was ahead, when Mads suffered a spin and dropped down to 8th.

All the best,

Andreas
