Andreas Mikkelsen are ready and very excited ahead of Rally Spain and his debut with Hyundai Motorsport. Based on good results in Spain before, the Norwegian hope to be fighting for a good result in his first rally with the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC.
It was at Rally Spain in 2015 that Andreas Mikkelsen took his very first WRC victory, this weekend marks his start number 8 for the Spanish round.
- I have such great memories from this event, and the victory from 2015 is the absolute highlight. It’s the only event on the calendar with mixed surfaces, we start on gravel on Friday before we quickly change everything ahead of Saturday’s and Sunday’s asphalt. This means two completely different driving-styles and you need to reset your mind fast. But it’s worked well before, so I’m sure it will be fine this time also, says Andreas Mikkelsen ahead of his first rally with the new manufacturer team. Together with co-driver Anders Jaeger, he had the opportunity for a couple of test-days in the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC prior to the rally.
- It’s not easy to jump in to a new car and then be fast from the beginning, but I’m ready to do my first event with Hyundai Motorsport. After the deal were done, we’ve been able to test on day on gravel and one day on asphalt and my first impression is that this is good. We have already seen that the car is competitive on both surfaces, and it was absolutely my experience also, Andreas explains.
However, test and rally are two completely different arenas, and Andreas feels a little bit more excitement in the air, nonetheless the plan is to be on pace with the front runners.
- Rally Spain can be very challenging, but at the same time a great rally. I’m really looking forward to start and the atmosphere on the stages, as well as in the service park is usually amazing with all the Norwegians who come to enjoy a bit sun and some rally-action.
